Both the Hartford County town of Southington and the Fairfield County city of Norwalk appeared on Realtor.com's 2023 list of the "hottest zip codes" in the US, taking the No. 2 spot and the No. 8 spot, respectively.
The annual rankings are determined by taking into account both the market demand, measured by the number of unique viewers per property on Realtor.com's website; and the pace of the market, determined by the number of days a listing remains active on the website.
According to the listings website, both Connecticut locales exhibited enough high-demand and fast-selling properties to make the list, with the following data being released for each location:
- Southington properties, which had a median listing price of $368,000, stayed on the market for a median of 18 days and had 5.7 viewers per property versus US;
- Norwalk properties, which had a median listing price of $596,000, stayed on the market for an average of 23 days and had 2.9 viewers per property versus US.
Both locations' appearance on the list was their first-ever, according to Realtor.com, which also said that they drew much demand from viewers in the New York City metro area. This reflected a trend suggesting that many buyers are looking for homes that are more affordable relative to their nearby metro area and are spreading their search to a wider geographical area.
If you're wondering what zip code took the top spot on the list, the honor went to Gahanna, Ohio, which is part of the Columbus metro area.
